Public Lectures by KFG Members

Our new Senior Research Fellow Christian Mauder will give a guest lecture on Buchkultur als Mittel der Herrschaftslegitimation: Höfische Manuskriptkulturen unter dem vorletzten Mamelukensultan Qāniṣawh al-Ġaurī (r. 1501-1516) at the Leipzig Institute of Oriental Studies (Schillerstr. 6, Room S 202) on 13 June, 6:15 p.m.

Nahid Mozaffari will deliver the keynote lecture on Sites of Secularity in Early 20th Century Iran - Major Shifts: Converting from the Religious to the Secular at the Research Workshop Conversions – Changing Sides: The Propagated, Visible, and Tacit in Society, Religion, and Discourses at LMU Munich 12 June 2018.

In celebration of the hand over of the Jena branch of the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft (Southeast Europe Association) on 12 June 2018, 6 p.m., Wolfgang Höpken will deliver the ceremonial lecture on Säkularität als Herausforderung: Religion, Nation, Moderne im Bosnischen Islam.

CfP: Sharia and the Secular

The SoCal Islamic Studies Graduate Student Consortium invites papers exploring the theme of Sharia and the Secular (October 19-20, 2018 University of California, Santa Barbara). Please submit a 300-word abstract indicating the topic, main argument, and methodology of your paper. Proposals should be sent to isgsc@cmes.ucsb.edu and must be received by July 30, 2018.

Maintenance Information

From 11 to 12 June there will be noisy construction work going on on the 3rd floor of our building which might affect our offices as well. Also, from 11 June on the cleaning company will start to clean the windows in all our offices.
