Interview with Markus DreßlerOur Associate Member Markus Dressler has just given an interview to the radio station Deutschlandfunk where he talks about early attempts of reform in Turkey. Since the AKP has been in power, Turkey has become more Islamic – even though the constitution has emphasized the secular nature of the state since Kemal Atatürk. But already in the 19th century, the reform phase "Tanzimat" shaped the Ottoman Empire, as Dreßler explains in the radio discussion.

KlingKlang: Sounds from the History of Media. 31 video clips for listening and guessingUnder the heading "KlingKlang: Geräusche aus der Mediengeschichte/Sound from the History of Media", the German National Library is offering an unusual look at its collection at the beginning of the year opening up its treasure chambers to the ears. What normally stands mute in the magazine and exhibition is now being presented acoustically. Whether it's the quill scratching across parchment or the 3D printer, whether it's the phonograph, the cylinder printing press, the Gameboy, or the chirping of the inkjet printer. With 31 short video clips to listen to and guess, the series accompanies the month of January acoustically. The series will be shown on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
