Wednesday Weekly 18 October 2023

Dear friends and colleagues,

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to and attended our final conference last week. We could not have imagined a more rewarding and enjoyable finale.

This milestone is now behind us, but of course the day-to-day business continues.

Unfortunately, next week's colloquium has to be cancelled on short notice. The next colloquium will take place on 1 November. However, we would like to share with you the latest publication from our KFG members and a new bulletin entry. We would also like to draw your attention to the ReCentGlobe science festival.

Enjoy and have a good week!

Lucy and Johannes

New Bulletin Entry: Rajeev Bhargava on the Trajectory and Challenges of Indian Secularism

In a recent interview with V.S. Sambandan of the Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, our Senior Research Fellow Rajeev Bhargava elaborated on the current challenges and future prospects of Indian secularism in the light of its long-term trajectory. Particularly in the middle section of the interview, Bhargava summarises his position on the longue durée of a specifically Indian approach to religious plurality. Challenging the common distinction between modern and traditional, he again points to forms of secularity beyond and before the colonial encounter and its accompanying forms of religionisation.

The GlobeFestival is entering its third round: from 24 to 27 October, the Research Centre for Global Dynamics at Leipzig University is organising the science festival Globe23 together with numerous partners within and outside the university.

The previous two editions focused on cross-border solidarity and the climate crisis. This year, in a time of rapid change and a world in transition, the focus is on our "Life in Upheaval".
